The Death of A Newsreader

Question: where do u get ur news sources?

Ch 10, CNN? BBC?

I stopped watching news since the spritely Charmane Dragoon (sic) of Ch 10 news met an untimely end, and sadly, on that day, so too did my appreciation of hot (in that office secretarial way…not doctors and nurses) news anchorwomen.

But i digress

The demise of broadcast news brought about the miracle that is Twitter. And why is Twitter now the leading source of my information enlightenment?

  • News as it happens, not regimented to the 6pm or 1030pm slot
  • News on topics that are not covered by the mass media
  • News that is indepth and not trying to squeeze 10 pieces into a 22min slot

People talk about the overload of information by the internet and social networks, but many need to understand how to filter the plethora of information that is indeed out there into news that is of personal value to you.

What do i mean?

Take me for example

I would like to know about these things on a daily basis:

Latest international breaking news as it happens CNN & BreakingNews

Latest happenings in Tokyo TokyoUpdates,

Street Culture SlamXHype

Local & Global Advertising News Campaignmag, Adage, Mumbrella, mr_burnett

Australian dance & electro Modularpeople

Cycling News Velonews

Football News Soccernet

Golfing News PGATOUR

So why would i bother flicking on the tube for a 6pm update that i already knew at 10:07 the previous night?

What we are witnessing is the eventual demise of Ian Ross, Mark Ferguson and croonies. They symbolise the web1.0 information structure of blabbering generic news that might leave the masses partially informed, but never full.

Thankfully, news has smartened up and gone straight giving consumers the freedom and power to choose what they want to see and hear when it happens.

It’s a complete role reversal from being dictated to, to being the dictator of. That’s the key of modern day news, whilst those who gather the information remain unchanged, the power has being transferred from those who read it to those who openly choose to view it! Can the news stations really compete against that? I don’t think so, do you?
